My July the 4th, 2008

Jul 05, 2008 00:10

Bullet points in no particular order cause I am insanely tired and want to go to bed.

* Went to Ripon for a Meyer Family Carry In type meal. Ate waaaaaaay too much, but damned if it wasn't all hella good.
* Complained about eating waaaaaaay too much while I munched on yet another rice krispy treat/glazed corn or rice chex/brownie (I did say it was good, yes?)
* Actually wasn't feeling bored or without anything to talk about for once with the rest of the family. Had all sorts of stories to tell and to hear.
* Won on the very first hand of Kings Corners (Seriously. No one else even got to lay a card down. Yes, I totally bragged a bit after that).
* Drove second cousins Dawson and Coral around in a wagon
* Got a new pair of shoes from Aunt Hope
* Gave all my left over Cajun dip to Uncle Jeff cause A) it probably wouldn't have survived the ride home without a cooler, and B) No way in hell would I ever be able to finish the stuff up on my own. Not that it wasn't good, but it was a bit too spicy for grazing my way through half a bag of chips in one sitting. More like I could eat three chips worth and then I was done.
* Got lots of compliments from the family on my t-shirt, which I wore today and somehow managed to keep clean. Go me.
* Picked and ate a bunch of fresh sweet peas from Grampa's field. They were/are very tasty.
* Got back to Plover around 6:30, where Dustin was having *another* cook out. I was still stuffed to the gills, but that didn't stop me from eating about a plate's worth of goodies.
* Met a few of our neighbors from the house kitty-corner to us when they saw us all sitting around the fire and decided to come over and "crash the party" - their words, not mine. They ended up sitting and chatting for about 20 minutes. I think they might have been a little drunk, though I wouldn't put money on it. Their voices weren't slurring yet, but it sounded like it could've been a near thing.
* Finally got to play with my big cloth frisbee! Rod, Steve and I tossed it around for about a half hour. Was much fun.
* Was introduced to the game... um. Something-ball. (Batchy-ball?) Kinda like horse shoes, only with balls. You get to throw the "target" (small, white ball) wherever you wanted, then you tossed the bigger balls - in our case, red and green, and later on with the light up set, red, green, blue and orange - and try and get as close to the target as possible. My team won the first game, then we came it last on the second. It was still a lot of fun, though.
* Got beamed in the knee with a can of bug spray. It hurt. A lot. It still does, and I have a knee-version of a goose egg right across the top of the knee. Going up and down stairs is not fun.
* Ate strawberry short cake. It was yummy.
* Helped return our neighbors dog from across 54, Avery, when she managed to pull yet another Fourth of July Great Escape. Apparently this was the third or fourth time the fireworks scared her into escaping her pen. Very sweet dog. She made me miss my puppies.

Huh. Looks like the day was a lot more active than I originally thought. Who woulda thought.

Now, though, I am going to bed. Hopefully the neighbors are all done with their firecrackers now.
