He gave me hope when hope was gone. He gave me strength for biking on.

Today, August 10, is the anniversary of my conversion. Two years ago today, I mikvah'ed in the muddy, sandy Amite River in Denham Springs (yeah... blegh) and became officially Jewish. A thought occurred to me as I was biking to temple yesterday evening. I still haven't gotten used to biking up and down all these hills, and the bike ride to temple is especially torturous because it's mostly uphill! Ugh! But I keep on biking there, week after week, because if there's one thing I hate, it's driving to Shabbat services. (That, and Colm Wilkinson as Valjean.) Honestly, if I have to drive there, I'd almost rather not even go. Being Jewish is kinda similar. It can be a difficult and challenging experience at times, but there's nothing else I'd rather be.

So obviously this day is pretty special to me, and I celebrated in a small way. Since the day fell on Shabbat this year, I got up early this morning and made deviled eggs for the Shabbat morning Torah study group at the temple. I'd never been to Torah study class with Rabbi B, and it was so different from the classes I've been going to with Rabbi W. They're both great teachers, but they have very different styles. I might start going to Rabbi B's classes more from now on... if only they weren't held so darn early in the morning!

When I came home, Sara and I went to the library, and then I spent a lazy afternoon reading in bed with Mayim.

Sara checked out a book called Cat vs. Cat: Keeping Peace When You Have More Than One Cat, which we hope will help us make some progress between Tovah and Mayim. We also checked out more Alice books, because I just can't get over how many stupid and unrealistic things Naylor makes that girl do. And...
