For my interpretation of the Køstrup apron dress, I am concentrating on the single surviving seam between the front loop and the underarm to guide my interpretation. As I mentioned in my last dress diary post, I'd been thinking of wearing my newest red dress with the "wrong side" out. I think I like the results, and with contrasting-colour thread you can see construction details much more clearly without needing to be entirely too close to my person. At Spring War Practice, I got a new spool of linen thread from kass_rants, and that has solved all the problems I had with linen thread on my Birgitta cap project. Figures.

So I cut out a second Moselund kirtle, this time in red, and I'm handsewing it with the seams I'd used for smarriveurr's Haithabu over-tunic, though for illustrative purposes I may try wearing it ( Read more... )

My various gods, some days I am really obtuse with this spatial reasoning thing. I'm really glad my copy of Ancient Danish Textiles showed up through ILL, as it's finally allowed me to figure out the gores on the Moselund kirtle.

I got brave enough to lay out and cut pieces for my new under-dress. I've decided to go with the cut-trapezoids-from-a-rectangle method of cutting the gores and godets, to see how it all hangs. So far so good ( Read more... )
