today i went to fika for the first time in months, and had my usual skagen. (i know, i should try new things. but skagen is just sooooo good) d had the sirloin steak, but they overcooked it to well done. poor thing, he normally eats his steaks medium rare...maybe they heard "medium well"? anyway the skagen today was HEAPED, and i really mean that. much taller than usual, and you can discern that the shrimps are larger than usual. (yay!) they added a dollop of roe on top, but that was my least favourite part. i was still hungry after dinner though :( it's not that there wasn't enough of the food - the portions are generous enough - but i think i'm finally getting my appetite back. that's not quite a bad thing, right?
and yesterday was the elephant parade :) the tembusu painters got an official unveiling ceremony plus an amazing buffet by stamford catering. i'm not kidding, it was AMAZING. the thai green papaya salad with shredded chicken was just the right balance of crunchy-sour + spicy :D should have had more! my favourite was predictably the cocktail prawn with black caviar...it was the first time that one of my friends tried caviar and he figured that it was no big deal haha. there was french cheese button mushroom stuffing, turkey ham roll with bell peppers, xiao long bao (with chicken, not pork. stamford catering is thankfully halal) and crumbed scallops.
i didn't try the cajun spiced chicken lollipop because it was kinda hard for me to discern what kind of poultry it was, or the fusilli because i didn't want to fill up on carbs. you can't blame me, what with the spread ;) the pan-seared tuna was apparently overcooked but delicious all the same, almost as lovely as the mini cheesecakes and tommykoh's birthday cake :) i was positively stuffed at the end of the day, and would have eaten more if it wasn't study time. great (free) food is why i get involved in things :P :P
