An Awkward Position?

An Awkward Position?

Either my son or I need a clearer cell phone, or maybe I'm getting old-lady hearing.  I keep misunderstanding bits of his sentences, and well..... you just don't want to leave me to my own imagination as to what I heard.  I sure hope it's our phones.   I'd better be a whole lot older than this before my hearing goes, or I'm going to either shock a lot of people, or have to finally learn to keep my mouth shut and my humor turned off.  Those last 2 seem insurmountable.

I usually can't reconstruct how my son and I get onto a particular subject, where it started.   This one started out with computers, and ram (the memory thing), then onto the new Dodge Truck, with the Rambox commercial.   He re-enacted the commercial for me, and we both couldn't believe that slogan made it through all the presumed checkpoints unscathed.  (He was pretty cute, actually.   He had to ask me if I even knew what a “box” was in slang.  Awww...giggle.   Dude, Mommy's a goody-two-shoes, but I did go to public school, you know.  And then there was Aunt Doreen's influence.   He actually phrased the question something like, “You do know what a box is, in slang, right? It's a, well..., lady thing...”  LOL!!  Cute little guy.  No “lady” would call it, or think of it, as a “box”.

“Lady thing or not", I said, "that ramming part just doesn't sound all that comfortable."

And the conversation went downhill from there.

In a part of a conversation about an aquaintance of his, he mentioned the old term “Missionary Position”. Later, I had thought he had changed subjects, at least partly, when I heard a phrase that I didn't understand. This new generation has some different slang, and frankly some rather quirky habits, if you ask this old-fogey, so I wasn't sure that I heard correctly.  I thought I'd confirm what I thought he said.

“Wait....did you just say Western Atheist (position)?”  Whaat??!

And my mind was racing onward to figure out what this might be and why it would have earned such an intriguing name.   Having previously mentioned the Missionary Position (and we all know how “proper” this is, and boring), what shenanigans can the Atheists get up to?   Or down to, into, onto, unto, around?  Give it a thought or two.   I'll wait.

We both had a laugh, and per our usual style, abandoned whatever the topic was and explored the comedic possibilities of this new line.   I told him he should go to the girlfriend tonight and tell her she's in for something different.  Make up your own desired position, and tell her it's the Western Atheist !   She's a Westerner (American), who spent time in the East (Egypt), and she's abandoned religion these days, too! Should be good for a laugh, or more.....

They're young, thankfully, and spry, hopefully.   Chiropractic Therapy is not part of the benefits package at his new job.
