Back to subbing--and subbing as much as I can to save up money for Disneyland--has left me pretty tired, because sleep schedule! What is that! 8D Teachers aren't flaking out unless they absolutely have to this early in the year, which leaves sub jobs scarce on the ground.
First day back on the job? "Hey," says one student, "Remember that time you subbed for us and we
started flipping tables?"
Yeah I had at least a dozen of the same sixth graders from the end of last year. AND a migraine headache. That was not a great day. The rest of the week was...about the same, but without the headache it was largely bearable. Even Friday with 4th graders, two days without their teacher and the last day of the first week of school.
I really. Hate. Subbing. Elementary School. The teachers have them trained but they don't tell you the magic words, and each teacher has different magic words, and as soon as they scent blood in the water they try to eat you alive. (I'm not saying they succeed, but they chew on you, and it's fucking exhausting.)
But then! Monday! HALLELUJAH! High school English freshmen at a Career & Tech high school. Ahhhhhh bliss. Freshmen this time of year anywhere are timid little koala bears at a new school, it's FANTASTIC. And, though the fact that the welcome mat to the front office says "JOIN THE COAST GUARD" and that kind of skeeves me out? I do like their approach to alternate learning styles and 'open-air' class rooms. And they leave early and start late! It's awesome.
Ugh i don't know if this post had a point. Here have an Iceland pic:
