I meant to get a post up yesterday (and the day before that) but lj was being screwy and then i forgot? WHATEVA

Soooo even after my melancholy post on Monday, Tuesday was.....baaaad. Like, most of the day was really good! And then last class of the day...was not. There was literal table-flipping. (And it wasn't me, in case that needs to be said, it was the kids.)

I didn't handle it as well as I should have. Hindsight, everything, I know exactly what I should have done. I shouted/snapped at them, I told them "I like you but I do not like what you do," I told them we would go back to bookwork instead of the movie+journals, I was really loud and really tired and really tall--and about half of them spent the rest of class huddled miserably knowing they'd done wrong and the other half kept vaulting over tables. Not my finest hour. I might've cried a little bit, not in front of the kids, but still.

So the next day I started the class by telling them that I should have handled it better, clearly there were some people who wanted to choose Step and/or be sent to the office and I wasn't giving them that opportunity. In light of that, I said we could either do bookwork or we could do the journal that none of them had done the day before, continue with the movie, and complete the work assigned for today as well. Obs they went for the movie, and they behaved themselves much better.

And Thursday I brought their class popcorn while we watched Megamind. So I'm pretty sure I got Stockholm syndromed into liking them best.

The thing is, some of them are hardwired to where they have to be doing something; like, it's actually difficult for them to stop. The kid who flipped the final table that made me flip my shit especially gets like that. And sometimes I can get them to channel that into getting shit done and sometimes I can't and it's nobody's fault. (And sometimes you can throw around the blame but wtf even is the point.) I got one of my hyper-est kids to complete a two-sided worksheet in ELEVEN MINUTES while the rest of the class took all hour so YEAH.

Anyhoo, so that's how my week was. ANYONE WANT TO TALK ELEMENTARY WITH ME BECAUSE OMFG.

do i really need a real life tag?, jobbing
