This and That....

I'm a little ball of stress right now, and will likely be that way for a while. I've discovered that, although financial aid will cover my tuition for the summer semester, there's not going to be enough left over to live off of while I go to school. So I'm looking into getting a paid internship for credit as one of my summer classes, but I don't meet with the internship coordinator until Monday. Internships aren't generally difficult to get, but paid ones are competitive and few and far between. I'm taking a full course load this summer, so working isn't an option unless I drop down to half-time... which is my back-up plan but, as I've only got fifteen classes left before I graduate, I'd rather take as much as I can this summer, so I can finish my degree in the spring of 2011.

So, yeah. Going to be a little on edge until all the pieces are in place. Even if I don't do an internship this summer, I know I'll be doing one at some point before graduation. I want to have the experience of working in publishing before I apply to graduate school.

I do have a fair amount of sewing to do today, but I'm taking a break and trying to calm my nerves with a visit to a coffee shop for some chai. I'm going to complete the jacket when I get home and then draft and cut the skirt. If the skirt goes together quickly, I may be able to finish it tonight, but I also have most of the day tomorrow to work on it. Still no clue if I'm going to attempt the blouse. It really depends on how much time I have and how well the back-up works with the rest of the outfit.

I did finish my fascinator (which is gorgeous, if I do say so) and the necklace for the costume earlier this week, so it's really just the big pieces that need to be done. Truthfully, I am really close to being finished with the jacket. Everything is put together except the re-drafted peplum and, other than the peplum, the only other sewing I have to do is buttonholes.

Regarding the skirt, I'm still fiddling with design ideas. Part of me wants to make things easy on myself and just do two rounded rectangular pieces attached to a waistband and sewn halfway up the side seams, then bustle the rest (would probably look vaguely like this when done, though I think the back panel in the TV pattern isn't rounded), but I'm also considering doing something similar to a pannier cut, without the hip poufs. I think that's workable as a very large half-oval for the back that wraps around to the front and a smaller, rectangular piece for the front panel (closer to this). Then I can bustle the longer back piece, which may be more visually interesting.
