I can't find any news about what is happening today as a result of yesterday's loss. The county executives made a bet, Rushern Baker was very sure the Red Skins were going to win. Football is more than just a game as there was money coming to the county if the Redskins win as well.

I was just informed that "in exchange for taking on the responsibility for purchasing slot machines, the casino owners will receive a 6% reduction on the 67% state casino tax."

Am I understanding this correctly?: A 6% reduction of 67% is quite a bit less than 10% and 10% of 67 is less than 7, so the tax will still be more than 60%? I really didn't ( Read more... )

Last night at the Prince George's County Civic Federation, there was a big debate about CB-49. Basically it was because the argument against gambling was that we already have the highest gambling in the state of Maryland in the county through lottery statistics and that those same zip code areas are the highest ( Read more... )

I'm still excited about the Presidential election results! Hurray, Obama!

So as long as I'm still up, I checked on the state and county ballot results. Slots passed. The telephone tax failed.

OK, this is one I haven't decided on yet - I wasn't available the nights of the slots debates. I have friends who are voting "no" because gambling is not a right and it is an addiction and the poor are especially susceptible.
