If you have to put a guide at the opening of the fic to explain which anglicized names represent which characters, you are doing it wrong.

(exceptions being fandoms like Digimon where there are canon anglicized names, in which case you STILL shouldn't need a guide)

Boyf's best friend's wife pointed out helpfully (a week after we got the kitten) that Lawrence was, in fact, a girl and that the pound totally lied to us. We have renamed her Lily.

Haha, whoops.

Prior to this, I'd kept warning Lawrence that we'd have to rename him Florence if he didn't stop being such a crybaby. I feel a little silly now.

I think I think about physical scars more often than most people. This is probably because I have some on my face. The problem with that, though, is that unlike my thing about names, the scars don't really bother me, so I never use them when I'm writing. I forget that sometimes people get self-conscious about things like that, because I'm not.

I am now my school newspaper's copyeditor. I get one credit hour to be a grammar Nazi, and if I fail to Nazi hard enough, I can get in trouble. This wouldn't be a problem except that I'm required to do my grammaring in AP style--short for Associated Press.

( They hate commas. More specifically, they hate that comma at the end of a list of things. )

We've been doing short story cycles in English this semester, so it's neat to see an author's quirks, unintentional or not, poke through and show themselves in completed stories. I'm not used to reading single authors so much that I notice long-running themes in their works ( Read more... )
