Sam and I just finished watching 'Eternal Sunshine of the Spotless Mind' and first off I have to say I forgot how much I loved this movie. So original with Jim Carrey and Kate Winslet giving great performances. Although, I wonder if I would give the same glowing review if I am wrong about the ending. Perhaps you could help - you meaning my lovely LJ friends. I always assumed that Joel and Clementine decided to start a new relationship despite all they had learned about their past as a couple. I have held this view each time I have watched the film. Yet, tonight Sam disagreed. He mentioned that although the movie was good there was a sadness that permeated it. Enough to cause him to tear up a few times (I heart my sensitive husband). I countered his depressing verdict by relating my version of the ending - they still end up together at the end, therefore all is right in the world. Well, we did not see eye to eye on the movie's conclusion. To him Joel and Clementine parted ways amicably realizing from the tapes that they could never work out. I would like to keep hold to my bittersweet ending instead of Sam's glum view.
I know the movie is 4 years old, so to some the memory of 'Eternal Sunshine of the Spotless Mind' might be fuzzy, but if you are able to recall the ending then give me your opinion. Who is right?
