A Summary Of The Amber Pacific Concert

Jan 22, 2006 22:24

Let me just put it into words that you can fathom:

The AMBER PACIFIC concert was amazing beyond belief.
Everything tonight went off without a hitch, and I thoroughly enjoyed myself. January 22nd will definitely be a part of my most-remembered days of 2006, that's for sure. I have this whole story I want to tell all of you on LiveJournal, because I think it'd be worth reading. Thus, I leave you with the following:

I had my P&L interview at 1:00 PM, while my mom was at B&N. I went to the ATM to get some money, then to Subway to have a Roasted Chicken Breast for $2.70 after tax. I walked back over to B&N and we got into the car, I then started driving to the Pittsburg/Bay Point Bart station.

We got there around 2:15 PM, and after reminding me of tons of different things, I got onto the train. I arrived in Oakland and in front of the "Oakland Metro" venue at about 3:30 PM. While I was looking around, it was the coolest thing. Two guys in their late teens walked by me and I did a double-glance. I instantly recognized that one of them was Will, the guitarist from Amber Pacific, and Dango, the drummer. I thought, "Wow, this is already awesome!"

I waited in line until 4:00 PM when they opened the venue up. It was smaller than Slim's, but very appealing; I liked it a lot. While waiting for the first band to play, I talked to Dango and to one of the salesmen for the band Paramore. The first opening band, Red Lantern, began around 4:30 PM. They were all right, but the female lead singer wasn't that great.

Next up it was Kid Innocence. All the members of the band were a little on the pudgy side, but that's all right, they were entertaining. After them, my favorite so far, The Lashes, were up. I really liked this band: the lead singer is a cool guy, they had a keyboardist, and the harmony was spot-on.

Once they finished, I walked around inside and ran into the lead singer of Paramore, Haley Williams, who's only 17 years old. While meeting her, I talked to her and asked her all sorts of questions; she was really cool. The band went onto stage and I have to say I enjoyed their performance. I ended up buying their album afterward, too.

Then, it was time for Amber Pacific. (This band doesn't even need italicizing, they're so good.) Right when Paramore finished their set, I turned to the Amber Pacific merchandise stand, and all of them were standing right there. Again, I did a double-glance and couldn't wait until their set begun. I got a chance to talk to the lead singer (you know, the valedictorian of his high school class?), Matt Young, who was also really cool.

They started with a song off their old album, but once they got into their groove, they were awesome. The coolest thing was that they played my three favorite songs all in a row: "Poetically Pathetic", "The Sky Could Fall Tonight", and "Falling Away". (Three incredible songs, if I might add.) They played other ones like Gone So Young and Save Me From Me, and basically every song from their new album. They finished with a bang and it was spectacular.

It was even cooler afterward: first, I talked to Dango again, telling him how much I liked the set. Second, I met the lead singer of The Lashes and gave the same congrats, and then I went back to the Amber Pacific merchandise stand to buy some apparel. I got two shirts--a red one and mahogany one--as well as a black hoodie for about fifty bucks. Expensive, but worth it by far.

I went over to talk to Will, the guitarist that I saw walking by before the concert, and upon reintroducing myself, he said, "I knew you looked familiar when I saw you in the audience!" I told him I met him and the band back in July when I saw them at the Warped Tour. It's so crazy how music artists seem to remember each one of the fans they meet. I asked about their new guitarist, their tour in late-March, and about their next album. It was really cool to talk to him again.

I was then faced with a situation: it was 8:45 PM on a school night, and I was in Oakland, with no ride once I got back to Pittsburg. Cara wasn't able to pick me up, nor was Missie. I thought, "Who do I know that drives?" and then it dawned on me: Matt Wood!--My cross-country asst. coach! I called him up, asking him this huge favor. He asked his parents and called me back, delivering positive news. I got onto the Bart after using my ATM card, since I was out of money, and relaxed on the way back.

I arrived back in Brentwood around 9:50 PM. I met Matt's brother, who was driving the car, and we talked about a whole bunch of different things. I made it home at about 10:15 PM, let Matt borrow the Amber Pacific CD and thanked him for the favor. I showed my mom the stuff I bought, and here I am. (End LJ-cut.)

I am so glad I went, and tickets being only $13, and Bart fares $7, this concert was definitely worth it. I got to see five different bands, meet them, and get some awesome merchandise. I know I didn't take pictures, but it was one less thing to worry about.

Next time I see them, I'll be able to spend less time seeing them for the first time, and more taking pictures, if that's an option. All in all: Amber Pacific's not only an amazing-sounding band, but they're great guys too, trust me. This afternoon was incredible.
