Last weekend, I scheduled a couple of my routine visits and to bring Jana with me. I did make arrangements in advance with both doctors offices and they were very supportive.
Friday before Thanksgiving, was my dentist appt with cleaning. Michael took the day off as well to help. She did really well sitting through most of my cleaning. Then left the office to walk around the building, bumped into the PreIII class from her school that was on a field trip next door at Gymkhana!
When I was done, she was interest in her turn, but she wanted the dental hygienist to give her the check-up. Unfortunately, she had no comfort level with my dentist. He was even willing to just count her teeth. We didn't press and soon, he presented her with a Princess Jasmine toothbrush. She happily snagged it from him. :) This is fine, I just wanted to start introducing her to this practice. We did drop her off at school in time for lunch. She clutched her toothbrush and showed it to her classmates and teachers with pride, "I went to the dentist!"
Come Monday was my optometrist appointment. Michael had a site meeting, so it was just the two of us. She actually had been with me to my last appointment, so I was comfortable going solo with her. My optometrist, is awesome. For one, he was good friends with Mr. Rogers and was on two episodes giving Mr. Rogers an eye exam in his neighborhood. I've been trying to dig up those episodes.
Alas, she was again, squimish, but she did sit through the exam. I brought her toy flashlight with 3 filters (each one displays a different color and animal on the wall) to help her sit through the parts of the exam when he turns out the lights. He was, as expected, really calm and patient. I then took her to the optician area with me afterwards to finally pick out new frames (it's been 7 years). This, she got into. She asked to try on frames, I did mention, "But the doctor looked at my eyes so I get to try. You didn't let him check your eyes." Next thing I know, she wants to go back. "Maybe next time, when you're really ready."
