San Antonio Trip

Jan 23, 2006 17:08

We safely delivered pbaseball24's possessions to San Antonio, with Chris driving the UHaul the whole way down. I was impressed - two lane freeway, zero shoulders, and an 18-wheeler weaving in the right-hand lane would have made me nervous as fuck - Chris handled it great.

Once we got down there, we realized Sang Ang sucks, and decided we'd rather wake up at home. After dropping off the UHaul at a night location, we left for home.

Note of interest - the "drop box" for the keys was just a small hole in the door with a shelf directly below it. Anyone with a coat-hanger or really slender arms could be the new owner of one or several UHaul trucks.

Not pictured - roving gangs of Mexicans.

I was sick on the drive down and back up, so that wasn't fun. It also finally started raining on the way up, and since we left at 11:30 at night, it was just about the worst driving conditions imaginable. At least Brett and Chris entertained me by being drunk, and we got to stop by Jimmy John's. After several hours of hydroplaning and seeing things that weren't there, we made it back into Dallas around 5 am or so, and promptly collapsed into bed. Oddly enough, both bretthoerner and I wound up getting up pretty early. I ended up driving for about nine hours that day altogether, and my right knee was actually sore in the morning.

All in all, I'm glad that pbaseball24 has a job, albeit in Sang Ang (mang). We're all going to miss him, but will make up for it by driving down to Austin to see him - until the roving Mexican gangs stab him in the kidneys.
