Today was a 9 miler and I actually did well. Kenny has hurt his ankle and is confined to the couch so I was alone this AM.
The weather was beautiful. It was that atmosphere you get right before a storm hits. Lots of wind, a tiny sprinkle every now and then, dark skys and no thunder. PERFECT. And lucky for me this weather last a good 5 hours this morning allowing me to get my run in. LOL
Overall data from the run looked decent and just slightly better than my 7 mile run last week.
7 miles
2r/2w interval
16:12 average pace
165 average HR
188 max HR
12:42- Fastest Run Interval
21:57- Slowest Walk Interval (What did I do... stop to smell the roses?)
9 Miles
2r/2.5w interval
16:05 average pace
171 average HR
188 max HR
12:40- Fastest Run Interval
19:56- Slowest Walk Interval (Still not great, I need to work on this)
I do attribute my better data to slightly longer walking intervals. Originally when i signed up for this marathon, I really wanted to run more than walk. However as time gets closer, I just want to finish. RIght now common sense is telling me that if I give my legs more time to recover between each run, my endurance will be the best. So more walking it is. I think I might stick with this new interval for my long runs and see how it fits.
What did help me get through this morning's run (in addition to the weather) was music. Now most of you know that I don't run with an iPod. This morning was no different. I just sang the songs in my head. To get through the run in small chunks, I dedicated one run for each mile. Now granted I didn't sing the song the entire 16 minutes, I just sang it during my run intervals. During my walking intervals, my mind was all over the place.
Ladies and gentlemen, I give you what was playing this morning on Stefanie's 9 Miler.

My 9th mile was littered with childrens song. (Ie the Oscar Meyer Bologna song, Bill Grogans Goat, The Monkey Song, etc) What a way to end the run right? I think I should have stuck with pop.
