SE Asia Pt. 27 - Singapore, Botanical Gardens

Jul 15, 2006 02:37

I'm home now. I arrived a few hours ago. I didn't get a chance to post my pictures from my wanderings at the Botanical Gardens. I liked it there. It's mostly a large nice place to walk around, perhaps picnic. The orchid area was nice since it was so flower focused and had such a wide variety of species including some hybrids they created there.

As usual, I took quite a few pictures. This place, like the Bird Park, had the daytime mosquitoes. I wore repellent and still ended up with many bites. Bastards.

There are many waterfalls of this nature through out the park

The blue sky was again shy this day much to my frustration and disappointment.

Nifty root

Ginger

Ant butt

Bush groomer

There were occasional statues.

Friendly swan

More kewl roots

Anime inspirations?

This area was closed off but I snapped a picture anyway

heh.

There was a lot of crazy root/branchie stuff going on

I decided to pay the $$ to see the orchids. It was the nicest area I think.

Nice area to sit and contemplate

There was a "cool house" where plants that would be found in the cooler humid mountain areas lived

Alien plant

I dunno what this is... lol... coconut with wings?

I only found one place these grew and there weren't many of them

Unfortunate placement of graffiti

I think what I got most out of seeing the orchids here was gaining an understanding of how they grow in nature and the diversity of the flower. It was neat to see flowers growing out of various parts of trees. It's certainly more interesting than seeing a bunch of flowers rooted in the ground.

I finished my wandering just as a storm rolled in. Good timing. Don't get me started on the stupid taxis. Grrr.

I suspect it's going to take a few days for me to adjust to being home. I quite enjoyed Singapore and will be sad to be away. I consider that motivation to return. ;)
