Dad had a knee replacement yesterday. So far that makes 2 knee replacements and 2 ankle replacements! All went well with the surgery and he's expect to be in the hospital until later this week ( Read more... )

What makes a good Dad?  Some might think he has to have a lot of money or some fancy job.  Or they think he has to be a well known, important community figure.  I feel sorry for these people, for they throw away a wonderful gift.  I think I have an idea of what makes a good Dad, because I have a GREAT Dad.

Just talked to my Dad. He had his first post-op check-up yesterday (it's been 2 weeks). They removed the stitches and took x-rays. The doctor said things look OK for now. There are a couple nasty blisters from the cast that they're concerned about. Dad said the skin is still pretty tight from all the hardware packed inside. So it's back in 2 ( Read more... )

I talked to my Dad today and things seem to be okay for now. I can't visit him because he's 100 miles away, where the specialist works, in Bend, Oregon. The doctor said we'll have to take it day by day, but if thing go OK he might be able to come home this weekend ( Read more... )

About 25 years ago Dad was at work up on a catwalk -- it was wet and icy. He slipped and grabbed ahold of the handrail, which promptly broke off in his hand sending him (and his 50 pound tool belt) over 40 feet to the ground.
