I have GOALS for this weekend. I'd like to write at least 3000 words. This goal is relatively modest in some ways but not in others, as the two stories I want to work on are both historicals.

I really need to get my ideas in order before I go to sleep tonight, so I'll be ready to start first thing.

Just got back from this training class I'm taking for dayjob along with a co-worker. It's six classes on different Thursdays. Got the overview of the sessions today. An entire one is devoted to writing. The irony! It burns!

No, I've never mentioned at dayjob that I'm a published novelist. And I'm not mentioning it now.

I have a busy writing weekend planned; one of my workshop buddies is going to be down from NYC, so we're going to have breakfast and then go to a coffee shop for a little writing. Why is it that some people can write affecting, vivid essays about places they've visited a few times; while others can't write about their home?

Is it a failure of honesty, when we can't adequately write about home? Are we afraid of what will show?
