I am sickly today. I had a long - but fun - weekend and had to bear the price of it on Sunday and today.
What was I doing might you ask? I was hanging out on the Greenpeace ship the Arctic Sunrise which is in Philadelphia this week to kick start the Coal Free Future tour:
I got a chance to sleep on the ship on Friday night however the payoff for it involved doing a Night Watch (so nothing untoward happened to the ship) out on the main deck from 12-4am in the cold, snowy sea port that it was docked at. Brr. I was freeeezing and already had a bit of a sore throat. Not a smart idea. I was then back up at 9am to help volunteer with ship tours, did a mini march to the Philly mayor's office, and then meet up with my gothy friend Ian for some shopping, Philly cheesesteak sammiches (my first one ever!), and that evening to to Dracula's Ball where I saw a live performance by Conjure One.
Unfortunately by the time Ian got up to Philly I was dying, I felt so awful. And I didn't really have a place to put on my cute club outfit (lacy camisole dress, black and red waist cincher, stripey thigh hi's and a cute mini gothic lolita hat by Angelic Pretty) so I was trying to put stuff on in Ian's car along with my make-up. None of this really boded all that well so I felt like my outfit was fine but could have been much, much better.
We get to Dracula's Ball and I'm already tired and getting towards the loopy end of tired so I spent most of the evening downing Red Bulls to no avail. Luckily Conjure One was the first band to play so once they were gone I made the executive decision to leave and head back to DC around midnight. By that point I was getting so sick and tired that I just didn't care what was going on.
I spent Sunday and today recovering since I had no voice to answer phones with at work. While I'm feeling a bit better I fear tomorrow will be a long, long day.
As for today: anime! Yep, I've been catching up on some of the new shows that are coming out this season. And my thoughts -
- Tegami Bachi REVERSE: I caught the first season of this and really liked it. So far the second season is keeping my interest though I hear that it is deviating quite a bit from the manga. I really want to know what is going on with Gauche and Roda though!! It's a pretty cute series though not one I'd necessarily push anyone to watch.
- Star Driver: OHMYGOD! This show!!! It has a Galactic Pretty Boy!! Soooo funny! This show is so cliched and ridiculous that I've got to love it. It doesn't hurt that the animation is gorgeous and smooth and the seiyuu are top-notch. I have no idea where this show is going but I'm still loving it 17 episodes in. The CM break music (so reminiscent of Gunbuster) is sill making me smile. Also, the director did Sailor Moon so the transformation sequences are hilarious!
- Kimi ni Todoke 2: Yeah, somehow I'm watching the second season for this though I am not exactly sure why. The first season really bothered me with how slow it was and the second season is no better. It's cute, super girly shoujo, and... yeah.... kinda boring. We'll see if I continue watching this season or not... Haha, who am I kidding? I'll probably watch it anyway and yell at my computer screen at how dumb the two main characters are!
- Puella Magi Madoka Magica: Ok, ok, so it looks like a typical bishoujo anime full of pink and glitter and silly transformation scenes - BUT!! It's not. Well, not exactly. I'm only 4 episodes into this show and I love that these magical girls have to fight against witches in a really weirdly animated world that is super surreal and odd. It's quite interesting. I also love the fact that it is not saccharine sweet and bad things do happen. Also, the main character girl not even a magical girl yet. How rare. How refreshing. I'm curious to see where this goes...
- Fractale: A new one by Noitamina very reminiscent of Nadia: The Secret of the Blue Water. Pretty animation in a slightly sci-fi/advanced world. Color me curious. I've only got the first two episodes watched but I definitely want to see more!
- Level E: I've only gotten through the first episode of this but I'm liking it so far, for an alien comedy. I'm definitely willing to give it a couple more episodes to see if I like where it is headed...
- Wolverine: I've only seen the first episode but the animation style is very reminiscent of Vampire Hunter D: Bloodlust. Can't say that I'm intrigued enough to care so: dropped. Ah well. Wasn't expecting much from this one anyway...
- Hourou Musuko: I suppose I should like this anime, especially considering the way it approaches cross-dressing but the watercolor wash bothers me and I found this show to be on the boring side. I'm perfectly happy to cheer for it from the side-lines but I've already dropped this show. Sorry Mike.
- Hōkago no Pleiades: I'm so confused. Subaru cars X GAINAX animation?!! Hrm... Anyway, we have a couple of 6 minute shorts done by GAINAX for Subaru. I haven't seen all of them yet - and I'm not sure that they're translated yet - but it's cute and the animation is quite pretty. And most importantly the car references aren't all that blatant which is good even if there isn't much story to speak of.
- Showa Monogatari: I still haven't seen this one but I want to. I must look harder for a place that has it subbed as I don't think I could manage the raw unsubbed version of this show. Boo!
And that's where I'm at right now. So more anime watching? Hrm, maybe. I still haven't seen the Haruhi or the Fate/Stay Night movies. And more hot tea to drink! It's just sad that I have to do this downstairs as I am camping out on the couch due to my unwanted roommate! Stupid raccoon! Go away - or at least help pay the darn rent since you're living in my room! Grrr!
