i just dont see that happening, although i would be thrilled to be wrong since i think newjeans is really fun and i dont think they should have to give up a dream because the adults are fighting
I’m terrified to say anything definitive post-election so I guess I’ll just say I would be surprised for Hybe to go “she’s made this entire year miserable but because you say you want her back, sure. Let’s set that precedent. I’m in.”
I’ve never seen a C-suite not go scorched earth on the people who piss them off and make their lives harder. But it’s 2024 so maybe!
why stay? Because, as far as I'm aware, nothing HYBE has done thus far reaches a threshold that would warrant contract termination, and their termination fee would be astronomical if they can't show cause
( ... )
the "hybe was gonna dungeon them" argument hinges on the assumption that hybe would literally remove them from the public eye somehow, when in reality i think it would be more like how BP's situation was. they wouldn't be releasing music but would still attend events, get CF deals, do magazine shoots etc.
it sucks, because that type of situation does kill the spirit (and i'm sure hybe would pull some other fuckery to try and devalue their brand), but it's still preferable to being tied up in a legal case that could take months or even years (unlikely but still possible) to resolve. and even in the best case scenario where they win and are let out of their contracts without paying anything, getting the rights to their name and brand (along with the ability to perform their songs) is a whole other legal process.
i honestly feel like they peaked with hype boy and their songs keep getting worse. how sweet was the only good song they released this year and it still pales to their previous releases
