I came out to my brother tonight

I am house and pet sitting this weekend for my parents, but my brother Connor is here too. On my way there this afternoon, I called my parents to give them the heads up that I was going to tell him and making sure they knew. My mom initially picked it up, but after she knew that I was going to talk about coming out, she immediately handed it off to my dad to talk about it. I have gotten the vibe for quite a while that my mom does not like talking about my transition stuff very much. Maybe she is not comfortable with the subject or maybe she felt it was something for the "men" to talk about. In the end, my dad said it was okay with them if I told Connor. He even mentioned that after Connor knew, that they would probably plan to tell my little sister Erin too.

I went to go get us Sonic for dinner. He has been busy playing games all day upstairs, so I felt telling him at dinner was best so he has no distraction. I then told him while we ate. Basically he was not too surprised and was surprisingly very nonchalant about it. I asked him if he knew what transgender meant, he said yes. I asked Connor what he knew about transgender people, and he said that it was someone who is a boy or girl that eventually gets an operation to change it. I explained what was wrong about that and explained that it is much more complicated than that. I tried my best to clarify what being transgender was but specified what it meant more about for my situation. I was curious where he learned about transgender stuff and he said the TV. He said that he saw something on National Geographic channel about transgender people.

The only thing that surprised him is the fact that our cousin Joseph (who is about a year older than him) that he plays online with has known me being transgender since I told my parents (which my mom told their family when I first came out to them). He said that "conservatives" are people who don't get being transgender. In conclusion, he took it very well and seemed accepting of it.

brother, family, coming out
