The top selling manga in the United States have been posted for the first quarter of 2010. It should come as no surprise that Naruto maintains its position as the bestselling title on the list. Viz Media didn't just grab the #1 spot, but the following 8 positions as well. The only non-Viz title in the top ten was Yen Press's Maximum Ride, which is arguably not a manga at all since it's an OEL. Del Rey's top selling title, of course, continues to be Negima.
Former manga king Tokyopop only takes one slot on the whole top 25 list, with the already finished Fruits Basket at #11. It's kinda sad to see the mighty fall like that, but considering all their top selling series have now been completed (most notably Fruits Basket & Chibi Vampire), it seemingly has nowhere to go but down.
Make special note of up-and-coming title "Black Bird" from Viz, which is definitely a rising star. In the month of May (which isn't included as part of Q1), the newly released fourth volume was the number one selling graphic novel of the month. It didn't just beat out all other manga, but all comic book releases as well- including even "Kick-Ass!" For Q1 it sits in ninth place, but expect that to rise once the Q2 results get published later this year. The complete top 25 can be viewed below:
