You know that huge list of breastfeeding myths that Dr. Jack Newman puts out? Is there a similar one about natural birth? Because I swear, if I hear one more person say they need a C-section because they're too thin I am going to scream.

My sister went into labor Sunday morning some time (left for the birth center at 7am). She's been holding steady at 6-7cm since yesterday. Hey ladies, just wanted to update you. My water broke spontaneously at home Thursday morning and my daughter took her first breath late that night in the hospital. We did it without any pain meds and impressed the entire staff. Apparently, they have a rate of less than 10% attempted natural birth and birth plans are unheard ( Read more... )

So, what do you typically say to people who find out you're trying to go all natural (no epidural) childbirth and ask you if they're giving out badges? Like, there's no possible reason to do it other than to get some kind of Girl Scout badge or award at the end.

I am 38 weeks pregnant and this is my first baby. I'm trying to birth as naturally as I can in a hospital setting, and so I've hired a doula, written a birth plan that has already gotten the hospital nurses' panties in a bunch, and have prepared pretty well.
