I don't have enough for a whole load yet, but I put about nine bowls in the kiln, preparing for the bisque run. I have the pots all on the bottom of the kiln and ready for the shelf to be put in.

My back hurts too much to do anything but sit in my chair. Willem and I just went for a walk around the roundabout at the top of our dead end road a few laps. I have been weaving on the fourth dish towel a little bit while Willem was starting the fire and such ( Read more... )

This morning I unloaded the bisque firing, waxed bottoms and glazed the plates with JOanne's same glaze I'd used on the early bowls. I glazed all the bowls with the mint glaze. I hope I didn't make the glaze too thick. That would have ruined it all again like the last time when I held them in too long, glaze run 6 with the knitting bowls ( Read more... )

I glazed the bowls, knitting ball bowls with the col. glossy Turq. glaze, and the plates with Joanne's green glaze. It wouldn't stick to the edge of some of them. I'm not sure why. I forgot to remove some of the water before using the turquoise glaze. Oh well, it'll match the other ones that way. I let the bowls each soak so they would absorb ( Read more... )

I started the kiln at 7 when the rates went down, closed the lid at 10, and set the alarm for 1am and 4 am.

I slept thru the 1am when the alarm didn't go off. I woke up at 5am, turned it up to medium. Then at 7 when the rates went up I turned it up to high.

Shoot. So it will run for about 2 hours till its done.

Bisque firing.
Kiln open on low 12am
Kiln closed and off at 8am
kiln closed on low 2pm
turn up to med 4:30pm
turn up to high 6:30 pm
checked cones every ten minutes
kiln setter fell 8pm
Cones are unclear, but the first of the three cones may be melted. The other two look normal, but since the conesetter fell, I turned off the kiln

The kiln is on! Yippee. I will have to watch it to see how long it stays on and if it does what it is supposed to do!

Joanne and I loaded it for the bisque firing yesterday but it wouldn't turn on. But today it did. The kiln sitter didn't connect in the locked position, though.
