Torchwood Cliché Fest Fic Post
Finished! Thanks to everyone who participated! We had twenty-three new Torchwood fics written for the fest, which you can read here and at the Master List.
The Torchwood Cliché Fest is live!
From today until February 2nd, 3PM CST, post new fics written to the tropes, clichés, and story dice that make up the backbone of Torchwood fanfiction. Sex pollen? Pretending to be married in the suburbs? Suzie is secretly a Time Lord? Post your stories here or on the Dreamwidth mirror post. All fics should be new stories written for the Fest. We're trying to encourage new fanfic. Drabbles are fine. Six word fics are fine. Multi-chaptered epics are fine (but should be linked rather than directly posted).
The Basics:
Don't worry about originality. Maybe you can put a new twist on an old plot device, maybe you're writing the three hundredth fic that tells the same story. Tropes are like comfortable old blankets. Pick a trope. Pick several. Write.
Fics should be posted in the comments to this post or the comments to the Dreamwidth post, and should fit within one comment box (4300 characters on LJ, 16000 characters on DW). Longer fics should be posted elsewhere (your journal, fanfiction.net, AO3, Teaspoon) and linked here. One fic per parent comment. Do not post fics to both the LJ post and the Dreamwidth post.
The subject line* of your fic comment should include the following: Title, Characters or Pairing, Trope(s) because it helps with keeping things organized. (If the trope will spoil the fic, you may choose to list the trope(s) at the end of the story, but do please list them. Some tropes can be upsetting for some readers. List additional warnings as you think necessary at the top of your comment box.)
After fics have been posted to the official fest, you may add them to the Torchwood Cliché Fest Collection on AO3 if you want. Crosspost wherever you want.
It's only a party if everyone plays, so remember to read and comment!
The Iron Troper Challenge: go to this randomizer, copy and paste the list of tropes into the field, and click "Randomize". Take the first three tropes listed and write that fic. Add "Iron Troper" to your subject field so the rest of us can be impressed. (If you pick the first five tropes and write that fic, you can add "Iron Troper Pentathalon" to the field.)
* This journal has been set up to support subject lines. If your default view will not allow subject lines, please change your settings to show this journal in its original style. (Troubleshooting Hint: Check for ?style=mine in the URL and remove it.) If you have questions or concerns, ask them in the questions post. Or use the Dreamwidth post.
The Rules:
1. No bashing.
2. One fic per parent comment.
3. Characters should be drawn from the first three seasons of Torchwood. If in doubt, default to the rules at tw_proper or tw_classic.
4. While porn is highly encouraged, characters engaged in same should be the age of sixteen or older.
5. Any stories submitted to the AO3 collection should be stories from the official fic posts on Livejournal or Dreamwidth.
6. AUs, fix-its, crossovers, crackfics all welcome.
7. Fics do not need to be drawn from the prompt list. Other tropes and clichés are welcome. Please label your fic with the appropriate trope(s).
8. Management reserves the right to smite participants with the banhammer as needed. Let's not need it.
9. The subject line of your fic comment should include the following: Title, Characters or Pairing, Trope(s) because it helps with keeping things organized.
10. You can re-use tropes all you want. In fact, it's encouraged!
Note: LJ and AOL are having communications issues. I have not reliably received comment notifications since November, possibly earlier. I will be keeping an eye on the post here, but if something gets by that you think I haven't seen or need to deal with, drop me an email. (nancyelizabrown AT AOL)

Bonus! Bring out your recs! Got an older story that fits the spirit of the fest? Post a link to the recs post, with what trope applies. Rec your favorite fics with mpreg, Groundhog Day, pretending to be married in the suburbs, and more! (Yes, you can self-rec on the recs post.) The recs post will not close at the end of the fest.
