keep your eyes on the road and your hands upon the wheel

Oh, the other thing I wanted to mention in my post last night about the Marvel movies is that I hope anybody planning any sort of "superheroes need oversight/to be accountable to someone!" story (re)watches the JLU Cadmus arc, because it's pretty amazing at doing that, though of course it had earlier seasons to plant the seeds and let them grow to fruition organically over time. (I also think SHIELD-the-show needs to problematize SHIELD-the-organization way more than it has, especially after CATWS, but I'm trying not to post about that show anymore.)

And I just lost my train of thought because I got distracted by the idea of Adrianne Palicki as A:EMH!Veranke and Chris Evans as the Super Skrull. (also also, a little sad that Diamondback, or at least Madame Viper/Madame Hydra, isn't on the menu.) Carry on!

Also on that tip: Alan Sepinwall provides a quick and dirty Black Panther primer. Note: I know T'Challa only from Avengers: Earth's Mightiest Heroes, where he is AMAZEBALLS. I need him to show up in Cap 3 and throw ALL the shade at Tony.

The Flash: Going Rogue
OH MY GOD, FELICITY AND BARRY PLEASE STOP THE USELESS PINING AND HOOK UP. IT DOESN'T HAVE TO BE FOREVER. YOU CAN HAVE A FWB RELATIONSHIP THAT EVENTUALLY INCLUDES MORE THAN FRIENDS FEELINGS. I mean, I ship Olicity as much as anyone, but COME ON. THEY ARE ADORABLE. AND THEY COULD HAVE PRECIOUS LITTLE NERD BABIES. Especially after Felicity showed up to trivia night in that dress. I didn't know coffee shops did trivia nights - I am only familiar with the bar variety - but regardless, that was a dress to go clubbing and conquer the universe in, not sit in a coffee shop with your friend who you're totally not into banging. I JUST WANT TO SMUSH THEIR LITTLE FACES TOGETHER TO MAKE THEM KISS.

I don't have anything against Iris - I think the actress does fine with the little she's been given (the scenes with her father in the episode are the best thing she's been given so far) - and I get that the Allen-Wests are a speedster dynasty, so they're not going to deviate from the plan of Barry/Iris, but they need to give her more interesting things to do, because her boyfriend is blandy-mcblanderson+ (also, I have a hard time believing he'd date his partner's daughter; alternately, there's such a thing as asking to be transferred to a different partner so they don't HAVE to work together), and her being out of the loop is just DUMB. Especially after Joe's foreshadowy "No more secrets." Duh-duh-dum! moment. Also it's lazy and cliched and boring writing. Don't keep doing it! Let Iris be fully part of the action!

+yes, I do think he turns into a villain [who is from the future? I get all these time-traveling reverse flashes confused], which hopefully will make him more interesting.

On the plus side, Wentworth Miller as Captain Cold. He was really good. I was pleased.

I also thought that the train derailment was pretty nifty for being done on a CW-sized budget. I'm pretty impressed with how good the FX is on this show, because it has the possibility to be SO CHEESY.

Also, I don't blame Cisco for going all Batman about Barry and inventing something to stop him if necessary, but I do blame him for 1. not telling Caitlin and Wells about it, and 2. not securing it better. Crazy things are happening, dude! You gotta lock that shit down! CURSE YOUR DOPEYNESS, VIBE. (Why yes, I do plan to make some variation on that joke every week.)

I thought this was the best episode yet, though they still need to work on making the dialogue better.

What I'm reading Wednesday:

What I've just finished

Ancillary Sword, which I really liked - possibly even more than Ancillary Justice. Though when the Presger diplomat was killed, I was like, WHOA SHIT JUST GOT REAL! ALIENS ARE COMING! but then they didn't and I guess (hope) that's the plot of the third book? Because you can't just set something like that up and not follow through on it.

What I'm reading now

Tigerman by Nick Harkaway. I'm enjoying it, though I have a terrible sense of foreboding for the kid who calls himself Robin. (That is like the opening line of the book, so it's not a spoiler, and though I couldn't remember what it was supposed to be about, as soon as the narrator said, "the boy who called himself Robin," I was like, "I KNOW EXACTLY WHAT THIS BOOK IS ABOUT" even though I don't, exactly, but you know what I'm saying. *forever crying over Robins dot tumblr dot com*) I don't think anything will ever match Angelmaker, which I highly recommend to everyone, but I like Harkaway's writing A LOT.

What I'm reading next

Your guess is as good as mine.
