Tuesday night teevee:
I was going to write about SHIELD, because there were a couple of things I actually liked in last night's episode, but then it devolved into a rant about what I didn't like and how BOBBY DRAKE, FORENSIC ACCOUNTANT would be more entertaining to me than SHIELD is right now, and I figured nobody else was interested in reading that so I hit delete. Someone asked me why I'm still watching when I'm not enjoying it, and my answer is threefold: 1. I want to see if it actually improves at all; 2. I'm afraid there's going to be something actually important re: SHIELD for Captain America/Winter Soldier and I don't want to miss it; and 3. Brooklyn Nine-Nine doesn't start until 8:30.
Speaking of, Brooklyn Nine-Nine: The Pontiac Bandit
Look, they could have aired two hours of Andre Braugher holding puppies and I would have been TRANSFIXED. As it was, I really enjoyed the episode. Pairing Peralta with Rosa does a really good job of toning him down to bearable, and I like that they deepened the relationship between them, and showed that Rosa cared about their friendship, since she seems to care about so little. Plus, her EPIC SLOW MO EYE ROLL at the white suit. "You look like a Boyz II Men Easter album." Hee! And then they had Peralta screw it up and not pull out a win in the last moment, which was even more better. (I just realized what I typed, but I'm leaving it, because it feels right.) Plus, I really enjoyed the way Samberg and Robinson played off each other - the Papa-Fievel reenactment was hilarious.
I'm not as enthused about the Boyle plotline, but I LOVED Holt and the puppies, excuse me, small dogs, Richard and Dan, out of Cheddar and Karate. And Santiago being willing to take them even with her terrible allergies. Hee! "Hand me the small dog." And "We're disappointed in you. All three of us." And then the puppies undercutting the solemnity of his lecture! HOLT IS THE BEST. YOUR FAVES COULD NEVER. And of course the puppies had to go to Boyle at the end, but I didn't care that it was predictable because PUPPIES + ANDRE BRAUGHER = ADORABLE. (I also loved "CHAOS REIGNS at the Jeffords household. Terry wouldn't play you like that." OH TERRY. ♥
I also watched the first episode of Killer Women, starring Tricia Helfer as a Texas Ranger, Michael Trucco as her brother, and Mark Blucas as her DEA Agent love interest. (I can't help but wish the latter two roles had been swapped, because I just don't find Blucas attractive, where as I would climb Trucco like a tree.)
Without spoilers, I will say I enjoyed it, and not just because Tricia Helfer swaggering around with a gun and a cowboy hat is welcome on my teevee any time. (Sadly, tumblr had not come through with a MILLION gif sets of her before I went to bed last night. Maybe tonight?) I thought it did a nice job showing the strains of a woman working in an almost completely male field without being too heavy-handed about it, it had a couple of surprising character moments even if the plot itself was fairly predictable, and even though it was, I like that it knowingly played with tropes and audience expectations. It also had a really great soundtrack. Since it's only eight episodes long, I plan to tune in! And possibly think about how it could be crossed over with Longmire, even though I've only watched two eps of that so far, because Katee! And Tricia!

Wednesday book meme!
What I've just finished reading
Nothing. I am somehow STILL NOT DONE with Those Guys Have All the Fun.
What I'm reading now
Somehow, I AM STILL NOT DONE with Those Guys Have All the Fun: Inside the World of ESPN. I hoped to finish it at lunch, since I know there's a ton of pictures and ancillary material at the end, but apparently it is just going to GO ON FOREVER. I mostly found it interesting, but now I'm at the part where they all talk about their gaffes on air, which is one thing, but then there are a couple guys who got fired for sexual harassment who still don't seem able to understand why what they did was wrong so they come off as butthurt entitled dudebros.
What I'm reading next
Well, I still have, like, nine days to read The Goldfinch before it goes back to the library, so that's possible, or I will figure something else out.

Huh. Has anyone ever gotten a "You are not authorized to view this comment" thingy in their DW inbox? I guess someone locked an entry I replied to and I got a reply but can't view it? SO WEIRD.
