i learned a few good reasons to cry

I just watched this week's Friday Night Lights, and oh, my heart. I didn't cry straight through, but almost, including the theme song, which has never happened before. Normally I just ff through the opening credits of shows I watch on time-delay, but I couldn't because the music came up and the visuals, and I had that surprise!sob reaction. You guys, how is this show so heart-wrenchingly AWESOME so much of the time?

I cried when Lorraine told Landry she had his music on her mp3 player. I cried when Tim told Billy not to visit so often (is it wrong that when they were just showing hands in that first scene, I thought it might be Street back to visit? Man, I so want that reunion before the show is gone for good). I cried when Eric and Julie played one last game of ping pong in the middle of the night. I cried when Landry and Julie were reminiscing about Matt and the Alamo Freeze, and again when they said goodbye at the Landing Strip. I cried when Vince talked to Andre about his dad and being the man of the house. I cried when Eric and Tami saw Julie off to college.

So many amazing moments, large and small. So many call-backs to earlier episodes. So much continuity. Coach being cranky! Tami having a savior complex! Tim ...I'm not sure what's happening with Tim, but I'm sure it's going to be heartbreaking. More so than taking the fall for Billy. I cringe and cover my eyes whenever Billy comes on. Eep!

Vince and Luke being Eric's ...ambassadors to the basketball kid. "You're in Texas now. You love football. You just don't know it yet." &COACH; Jess knowing exactly how to get the kid to sign up (though I imagine this is going to backfire somehow). The team chanting his number (though it sounded like they were saying "86" and he was wearing "88"?) The tense moment when the Cowboys' QB doesn't get up. (Heh. art imitating life.) I'm sure Coach was thinking of Street then. Though I don't recall Luke playing both ways playing both defense and offense last season. I guess with his injuries healed, they're getting as much use out of him as they can.

God, I love this show so much, and I'm going to be so sad when there isn't any more. I have a feeling I'm going to be crying through this whole season. (Not that that's different from any other season. *snerk* Not since the glory days of BtVS and "West Wing" has a show made me cry so often.)

I also watched and enjoyed this week's Castle and Chuck, but find I don't really have anything to say about them.
