To follow Dora the Explorer's style: The back yard wood pergola re-staining project is completely completed.

All re-staining complete. All wood preservative treatments complete. All furniture moved back under it. Can now resume hanging out there, or BBQ-ing there, and enjoying it.

back yard wood pergola - re-staining project

Using my 6ft ladder, went to clean the top wood "roof" of the back yard pergola. The length of the broom/patio brush did not reach to the center of the top of the pergola.

Want to re-stain the back yard's wood pergola this year, to help it last.

Researched exterior wood stains via consumer reports.

The CR recommended top two choices are:

1. Behr Premium Solid Color Waterproofing Stain & Sealer
2. Olympic Elite Advanced Stain + Sealant

Both should be available at HomeDepot.

Went to the local home improvement store yesterday.

Purchased some wood filler.

Today began using the wood filler to fill in some gaps in the exterior house siding.

Once the gaps are filled, will then paint over the fill, as the instructions say the product needs to be covered with sealant if used as an exterior wood fill.

While the center bathroom was being worked on, one of the repairs done was to relocate and replace a power plug, so that someone can run a hair dryer at the location of the new sink.

Had the water supply pipes changed to copper, from the original 1930s galvanized steel pipes. Taking a shower had been no fun, due to low water pressure due to old pipes and build-up over the ages.

Turned off the electricity to the East-most room of the house. Currently used as my home office.

Replaced the 3-prong power plug that is closest to the sliding door. Verified that it actually does have a ground wire. Added heat shrink to the two power wires (the ground is a bare wire, and does not need to have insulation). Connected wires to the ( Read more... )

Turned off house electricity to the plug via turning circuit breaker off. Verified plug was not energized with voltmeter. Checked the plug that the clothes washer + clothes dryer are connected to.
