back yard wood pergola - re-staining project - 3.5/10 roof side sections

Using the narrow roller frame, extension, and ladders, continued to work on applying the 1st coat of stain to the sides of the roof wood "between the slats."

Slow but steady progress. Worked on it for about 3hrs on Saturday, but did a full 8hrs on Sunday.

Applying the first coat of stain remains slow going. To get a good first coat, can only move the roller about one inch per second across the wood. Also, the narrow roller, having small diameter, has to be re-dipped into stain about every six linear inches or so.

Was able to apply the first coat of stain to 3.5 sections, of the 10 sections of the pergola roof. The ".5" was because the overcast turned to bright sun by mid afternoon, and the stain says not to apply under direct sun, so only did half of section three, the half that was facing away from the sun (in the shade).

Maybe the next three day weekend of working on it, and I might have the entire pergola roof sides with one coat of stain fully applied.

As the roof already has a full two coats applied, I decided to put one coat on the entire remaining structure, then evaluate if it looks okay with one coat solely, or if the entire structure, not just the roof, will need two coats of stain to look nice.

At 3.5/10 completion, gallon three of stain is almost empty. Likely will have to purchase a fourth gallon of stain next wkend.
