Last day on the playa. Which meant the clean-up-break-down-leave-no-trace was in full swing.

Unfortunately, the swing was interrupted by yet another dust storm. And the shower had already been disassembled.

Parker now remembered why she'd been so glad to leave this place last year. "Ack. Ack. Ick. GAH!"

The pool was lit up with green Japanese lanterns and green-and-red chili pepper lights. Chips and small hors' doevres were laid out at tables, with waiters and bartenders standing by. The sound system was blasting upbeat party music.

Small signs saying 'PRIVATE PARTY' were tacked up at the entrances.

Parker had intended to spend today reading a book and chilling out. Trying to just relax.

Angelica Demesnes books clucking at her from her trunk had her slamming the lid down and heading into the common room. Where she proceeded to veg out on TV and the next-to-last Supers.

Parker looked around and stared, and then put her face in her hands.

Getting back from a fun afternoon of shooting at people in Archery, Parker hit the button on her Inbox, then blinked. "Angelo?"

What now? There were two video files attached to his e-mail. The only words in the e-mail were:

Sorry.

Daddy sad.

( This couldn't be good. She opened the first file. And blinked at the datestamp: her birthdate. )

Parker was sitting on the dock, swinging her legs, tilting her head up to the sun with her eyes closed.

A couple coils of rope were lying on the planks next to her. No reason.
