Over the weekend I saw on Teletext that one of the boats in the Tall Ships Race had to be evacuated as it flooded. Today I've found more information and it turns out it's a sister ship to the one we were on - built at the same time, by the same company, for the Clipper Round-The-World races ( Read more... )

Hjellestad is a small marina just south of the runway of Bergen's airport (Flesland.) It may look tranquil in the photos but you have to imagine aircraft of various sorts (commercial jets, small planes, helicopters) flying over somewhat noisily every 10 or 15 minutes. There seem to be a few places in Norway called Leirvik. The one we stayed in was on the island of Stord. Just to the south of it, there was this place where they seemed to be building oil rigs.

After all the rain in the late afternoon and early evening, the rest of the evening was fine. Although the sun didn't come out again, there was a very brief flush of pink in the sky late at night.Clearly my memory is faulty. You can see the rain making ripples in the water in the first photo.
