We've just had a massive rainstorm woosh past our office! Lovely sunshine - torrential downpour with thunder and lightening (so much so I couldn't see across the business park) - sunny and lovely with white puffy clouds. 10 minutes, start to finish.

Well, theoretically it was. Not able to sleep, I pulled on my pyjamas and wandered out onto the patio. The 60 foot trees behind the house were softened, wrapped in a hazy foggy blanket that felt cool and comforting. It's been a beautiful day. I got the chance to have a little walk at lunchtime as I had to deliver bloods to the lab. All the birdies are twittering, and the hawthorn trees are beginning to put out new leaves. Amazing. It can transform "Cloudy" to "light snow showers" to "severe weather warning". The snow started here at 4 PM. It took me an hour and a half to get home from 5, and when I got here at 6:30 we had nearly 3/4 of an inch. And it's still going. Because I got into work at 7 AM, I could leave a 2, and still have done a full work day! We really got the worst of it this morning - it was seriously snowing. But it tapered off around 1-ish, and has been turning into icy slush ever since. Not nearly as pretty, and more dangerous due to it's invisibility. My next door neighbor has just given up trying to get his car out of the drive. }:D

A14 has been shut in both directions due to jackknifed lorries. There's limited bus service, if at all. Police say don't travel if you don't have to. It sounds like they ran out of grit and didn't actually lay much down last night - I also think they didn't expect this much to hit us ( Read more... )
