So, remember
this? How about
this? What about
this? Well, my parents have the digital camera set up on the "family" computer and they put the afghan pictures on there. I've only recently had time to access and upload the images while doing my apartment searches. So... here they are. And hey, I posted them within a year of it being made!
The whole thing! WOW!

And finally,
toriem enjoying the afghan!
So there it is. Seven crochet squares by seven crochet squares for a total of forty-nine crochet squares using four different square patterns. I do have a few more pictures that were taken indoors, but they didn't come out so great. I thought I'd take pictures of the reverse of these squares, because they look really interesting from the wrong side, too. I still can't believe I did all that. It didn't feel quite so big while I was making each square. Of course, I was laying them out in
nevergabe's room, so I didn't really get a good feel for the size and scope of it until I was stitching it all together (which was a pain in the bum, in case you're wondering).
Except for the solid blue squares, I got the square patters out of 200 Crochet Blocks for Blankets, Throws and Afghans by Jan Eaton. Great book - I've actually been known to look through it just for fun - and these are some of my favourite squares. The solid blue squares are a creation of my own. I call it the V-Stitch Granny Swirl, which you can also see surrounding the Water Lily squares. Came out looking really interesting! I'll need to study the pictures and write out the pattern some day.
Except for the tuft of blue in the middle of the center square, it's all worked up with Red Heart yarn - 100% acrylic and machine washable. I don't always like working with Red Heart, it tends to get a little scratchy as it runs across my finger for extended periods of time. But they're the only ones with that variegated blues, pinks and purples (the colour itself is called "Ocean") which I LOVE and which came out looking really beautiful. The center tuft is made with
Patons Allure, which is 100% nylon.
Incidentally, the afghan is still at my Aunt's house because my cousin is afraid that her kids will mess it up!
On a completely unrelated note, I never realized how long "Riders on the Storm" is on the album. Or "Purple Rain" for that matter. Oh, wait, I think this version of "Purple Rain" is a live one. God, it sounds great, though!
