A few afterthoughts

So, I just finished the SPN season finale and I ....really liked it? Looking at a few reactions on my flist it seems that it was received with mixed feelings. Why is that you are often more able to enjoy things you aren't that much emotionally invested in? The more you care the more critical you seem to get. Or perhaps that's just me ( Read more... )

Hey, sorry I've been a stranger lately. I just... couldn't really cope with the internet. I'm that pathetic over a show. But thanks for linking to that post! I would have missed it otherwise and I never do hate heartwarming cast suff. :)

Besides, Milo is still on my shit list for shaving all his hair off and sporting that horrible buzz-cut. Doesn't he look like your friendly neighborhood zombie?

He does! Or possibly like a refugee from 300. I'm actually surprised that more parts don't emphasize the angles of his face like this. It's a good way to easily produce menace in a character. It's actually sort of a surprise to me how often he plays woobies, given that his looks lend themselves directly to sort of feral, hard edged characters.

ETA: I totally forgot half my comment! About enjoying things you don't love more, I'm sometimes like that. I wouldn't say I'm actually less critical, it's just that criticizing doesn't hurt. When I watch stuff I don't love, or even things I actually dislike, I can have fun ripping it apart. When it's ( ... )

Hey, no need to apologize! I was rarely around the last two weeks either, although for various reasons and I totally understand. I was thinking of you when I heard the news ( ... )

True, they haven't used the possibilities of his face nearly enough in his past works.

His face plus the fact that he actually does do predatory and vicious well... strangely underused. I would have expected a sharp, skinny young guy would be the perfect pick for mean little underworld thug or something similar (ohhh, assassin!), but most of Milo's parts were "bad boy with a heart of gold." Strange.

I also read that most of the cast has signed up to lose weight throughout the shooting, so they can visualize the malnutrition and radiation process. If he is among them, the angles on his face will become even sharper.

D: My brain went to a Christian Bale-Machinist sort of place. Hopefully they won't go that far!

There are quite a few shows I enjoy watching without caring too much and don't feel the urge to get involved in fandomYeah, I have a number of those. Usually when I look at the fandom, it flat out scares me off. I'm not interested in defending my opinions about Leverage, such that I have them, or my Psych opinions. Having TV ( ... )

Hah, from what I've read about this movie so far, he'll definitely do predatory and vicious this time. Oh man, and I love your brain! I would watch him as a mean assassin or gangster anytime. I think I would prefer these to his good bad boy roles.

Argh, no! But don't worry, I doubt they'll lose so much weight within 31 days (that's the amount of shooting days they have). That's probably also the reason they are shooting in sequence and increases the chances some of them might actually go bald by the end of it.

Having TV that's watchable is nice, but I just like having a fandom. I like engaging on that level. I'm not sure I'm really capable of being in fandom without being hopelessly invested.

Oh I know and I agree. Right now I find it hard to imagine being equally obsessed with something else, though. :/

For a long term character. I definitely like softer better. But for two hours? Vicious can be a hell of a lot of fun.

That's a relief! I get strangely worried for actors about clauses telling them they have to lose or gain weight. I just feel bad for them. As much as films give bad body image, the actors actually living in that environment have it so much worse. :(

Losing maybe 5-10 during the shoot would probably give them all harder edges, though, and probably work for method acting as well. They're going to be damn hungry and irritable!

Right now I find it hard to imagine being equally obsessed with something else, though. :/

I don't think I really want to obsess about anything else right now? I mean, The Cape and No Ordinary Family seem to show potential, but I'm hesitating just because I don't want ( ... )

Okay, after reading a longer synopsis of that movie he is shooting right now, I might have to take my statement back. I'm not sure I'm ready to see him like this. D: (If you are interested, it's here)

Yeah, although I feel like actresses have it even worse than men. And these excessive weight alterations like Christian Bale, Tom Hanks or even Rene Zellweger did or had to do for their films should be forbidden. Hah, that reminds me, even Hayden had to work really, really hard to gain all that weight and muscle for ROTS.

I don't think I really want to obsess about anything else right now?Yeah, me neither. And this might be totally childish and irrational but I'm already biased against The Cape because it's such an obvious replacement for Heroes on NBC. Same goes for No Ordinary Family even though it's on ( ... )

Argh, yeah. Do we know his character name? I think it all depends exactly on how things go down, but I was sort of figuring on classic horror-style Last Girl situation. No one will likely survive that movie but the female protagonist and the kid. Not sure I want to watch a movie climaxing on a rape attempt, though.

Wasn't he on an all cheeseburger diet? And, gasp, he even stopped smoking!

nd this might be totally childish and irrational but I'm already biased against The Cape because it's such an obvious replacement for Heroes on NBC. Same goes for No Ordinary Family even though it's on another network. That was actually my exact initially reaction. No Ordinary Family still gets it from me, because it's exactly mimicking the family drama aspects of Heroes ( ... )
