Tracking post!
So. Matt died, and then he woke up. This was understandably disorienting, especially when he discovered that his best friend, his best friend's rival, and someone who was supposed to be dead were all there too.
Later, he realized he'd talked to another person who was supposed to be dead, and that Mello was guarding said person. Matt tried out roughing it in a cave with Mello and B, but quickly decided that wasn't for him as a lifestyle choice.
He also found out that the person he holds accountable for his death was in Kannagara, too. This went about as well as one might imagine. Matt got over being minorly afflicted with sympathy for Light pretty quick. That same night, he had to bust up a fight between Mello and B. (For values of 'bust up' that amount to 'being distracting at the right moment.')
After he decided to suck it up and pay tribute to the so-called gods, getting a small house out of it, he was an unwilling witness to one of Mello's dreams.
There was a small epidemic of people being genderswitched, which made Matt nervous, but mostly amused him.
When a bunch of people struck out for Yomisato, Matt decided to see what was what there, mostly because Mello was going. He pretty much failed at crime. But he did get some money by pawning his boots. He met up with Mello in Yomisato, and they made some plans regarding the local criminals.
Then Kannagara was invaded, apparently, by an influx of people from crazy other worlds. Matt got his geek on more than once.
He met Cross, Jessica, and Lavi, cementing his belief that people came to Kannagara from worlds way weirder than his own; and decided to participate, sort of, in Cross's rebellion efforts.
One of his fears came true, and he had a dream that was broadcast over the network, which led to some unexpected bonding with both Jessica and Mello.
Renji went missing, and there was a minor murder spree, which included as one of the victims Marco, one of the people Matt really likes. This pissed off the gods, and Matt took the opportunity to ask an alleged goddess if he really was dead, but he wasn't sure he believed the answer.
He saw Jessica getting into some trouble, which led to him meeting up with her, not knowing at first that Mello was scheduling a meeting for the same time. Before he headed out for that, he found out Marco was back, and they talked a bit about their worlds, and about dying.
The meetup with Jessica to make a deal concerning V... didn't go exactly as planned, turning into more of a drug trip than a business deal. Matt was still hung over and trying to process that when he went to see what the aspiring rebels were up to.
Not long after, he found out L was back, and wasn't too happy about it.
