It was a pretty darn good weekend.
Saturday we had brunch with H. one of our new cast members. She recently moved to Boston, but had done community theatre back in Florida with my mother, and I was interested in getting to know her better. Turns out she's had a very interesting life, which included doing street theatre with a missionary organization in Russia, India, Australia, and Scandinavia for months at a time.
We also took her out to Castle Island. The tours were running, which never happens when we visit, so we took one. It was informative, if *very* hot. There's no shade on the ramparts. When the guide was explaining how the bake ovens worked, it made me think of Old Marian. Maybe when it cools down, I'll make some manchets in her honor.
Later that evening
new_man and I watched The Woman in Black. We'd seen the stage play in London and I think the movie review deserves a post of its own.
Sunday the Foundling came over for brunch and to borrow some books. And I got to use a
cookbook on the project list. I only have about 25 left to go. I really need to be invited to or host some parties because there are a bunch of things I want to make that are too much for two people -- Spanish cream, glitter torte, layered tea sandwiches, mufleta, pralines, &c.
The sewer line seems to be being repaired. There's a big hole in my backyard. The work was pretty unobtrusive, except for when we got back from Castle Island and discovered that instead of covering the hole with plywood, like they said they would, the workers had taken several of
new_man's large oak boards from the basement and cut them down to cover the hole. He had even asked them before we left if they had plywood for the task.
Needless to say, when the boss came by on Sunday, he was informed, immediately recognized the quality of the wood, and asked how much they owe us. I wouldn't have wanted to be those guys after we were out of earshot. Kindergarten rules, people! If it's not yours, don't touch it...
In other news, Albert is adorable. He's discovered a new perch, on top of the guest pillows in the corner of this room. They're white and fluffy and so is he, so I often do a double take first thing in the morning.
