I meant to post this yesterday, but I got a little busy with... stuff and live-tweeting the Olympic Opening Ceremonies (until Chris told me to stop, but then I started again when he passed out on the couch). More on that later. For now...
Well, Jonah did not go to his grandparents for the weekend after all. As it turns out, he did wind up running a fever Thursday around the time I was putting him down for his nap (which took two chapters of Harry Potter and the Philosopher's Stone to get him down). He woke up yesterday morning sounding better and fever free. But I didn't really want to send him down there sick or even sickly and my mother-in-law was nervous to take him in case he got worse (not to mention she sliced her finger open on her rotary cutter). So, we're home today and we'll shoot for next weekend. Poor kid, first thing he said when he woke up yesterday morning was "Mommy, I feel better, I wanna go to grandmama's". I convinced him we needed to wait until next weekend, but not without some pouting.
Anyway, in an effort not to dwell on the negative, I wanted to think about some funny kids cartoons we've seen recently.
Jonah is sort of gravitating towards the ones that are geared toward slightly older kids. Yesterday, it was
My Life as a Teenage Robot. While most of the show is kind of, meh, there was a hilarious joke in the one we watched yesterday. The robot chic wanted to dream, so she goes to her mom/maker and asks for the ability to dream. Mom/maker says, "hmm, what do androids dream of? Electric sheep?" I busted out laughing. Then Jonah laughed because he didn't get it.
Then there was an entire episode of
Back at the Barnyard called something like Barn Days Night that was a Beatles parody. It was awesome! Well, as awesome as a show about barnyard animals can possibly be. Also, I'm pretty sure the brown cow is voiced by Wanda Sykes. *checks imdb*
Yep.
So, thank you animators and cartoon writers, for throwing parents a bone once in a while.
He also loves commercials. Which I hate. But then, TV in general makes me disgruntled. We really need to get a DVR set up. For every single one it's, "Wow! Mommy I need that!" I have to say though, intermingled with the Hot Wheels and Legos he's requested (both of which he already has plenty of), he seems most excited about Star Wars stuff (maybe because the only thing he has is his
R2D2 Play-Doh set). It's not all bad, I suppose.
Speaking of, for those that missed it on Twitter and/or Facebook the other night, Jonah and I had the single greatest argument we've ever had or perhaps ever will have. We were watching Empire Strikes Back:
Me: That's Chewbacca, Jonah. He's a wookie.
Jonah: No, he's a lion.
Me: No, he's a wookie.
Jonah: Lion.
Me: Wookie.
Jonah: LION!
Me: WOOKIE!
It was a thing of hilarious beauty.
In the realm of rocking back and forth in the corner and convincing myself it'll all be ok, I bought the entire Percy Jackson series at the grocery store Thursday night. They were on a discount rack and books 1-4 in paperback were $5 each and the hardcover of book 5 was $13. Yay books!
Then Tuesday, I'll get to meet up with
saraphina_marie to pick up some of her
published works I snagged from her for a steal as well. I read one of her lovely steampunky short stories and definitely wanted to see more. It seemed like the perfect time to act,
since she could use the help and she's offering a pretty awesome deal there. Plus, local authors FTW!
Things have worked out for her somewhat, but I'm sure the sales are still appreciated and as far as I know, the prices still stand. Feel free to correct that, Sara.
I also need to start reading my Druidism books again. Need to get educated for back story in my novel.
Speaking of writing, I was up even later Thursday night than I was the night before. I couldn't sleep. I seriously tried to go to bed at 9:30. But I lay there, exhausted, unable to even close my eyes let alone sleep. When I realized the only topic on my mind was my characters and realized that with the chaos of Thursday I didn't have any time to write, I got up and I started writing. I didn't make any huge strides, but I satisfied the muse enough to let me finally go to sleep at 1:30am or so. I had some big sweeping additions earlier in the week with new characters and plot development for book 2 and such, but now things are slowing down again as I fill in some details here and there and start asking more questions. It all comes in waves.
