SCOTUS Blog is reporting a filing in federal court asking that the right to gay marriages be recognized under the federal constitution.  Morality aside, it's an interesting move to have Prop 8 in California overturned.  The argument is that gay couples are being denied due process and to legal equity.  While that's true, it doesn't mean it's legal ( Read more... )

Lots of reports today that David Souter is retiring from the Supreme Court, although he hasn't announced anything yet.

Justice Ginsburg had surgery on February 5 has been determined as TNM Stage 1 by doctors at Memorial Sloan-Kettering Cancer Center in New York City. All lymph nodes proved negative for cancer and no metastasis was found. The Supreme Court starts it's new session on the first Monday in October. The court docket has some interesting cases coming up in the next month, according to the SCOTUS blog. There are a couple of 4th Amendment cases, a 6th amendment case, and one on the Navy and endangered species which should either be really interesting or totally boring.
