In which I contrast the Kobo Touch, Sony Reader and iPad 2 in terms of reading books.

Let me cut to the chase: If I was forced to choose only one of these devices, it would be the iPad. But for the purposes of exclusively reading books I would choose the black Kobo Touch.( No photos, sorry. I can't capture the bedazzling effect of the Sony Reader's shiny bezel. )

Here are some ways that Kindle (App for Mac OS X) fails me:

• Does not support code blocks (i.e.: pre formatted text)
• Has poor widow/orphan control (i.e.: page breaks between headings and the subsequent paragraph)
• Touching my scroll wheel will send me many pages back or forth through the book, leaving me to waste my time getting back to where I was.

The Apple Blog: 7 Lion Annoyances

The only two items from this that bothered me were Dashboard as a space (rather than an overlay) and "All My Files". All My Files is useless for me since I have thousands of documents (javascript, web site design images, css files), automatic backups, etc.

My iPhone 3G broke. It's a repair that I can probably do at home with a LCD replacement kit. In the meantime I've upgraded to an iPhone 4.

I bought a pair of Sennheiser PMX80 Sport II Headphones from the Apple Online Store. What I was hoping for was open-ear headphones that I could wear while riding, without the ear buds falling out of my ears. This is the major problem I have with using the iPhone while riding.

( The PMX80 headphones are quite nice )
