My iPhone 3G broke. It's a repair that I can probably do at home with a LCD replacement kit. In the meantime I've upgraded to an iPhone 4.
Foolishly, I restored a slightly old backup from the iPhone 3G to the iPhone 4. What I didn't realise is that this backup was from before I was having my
iPhone Sync Blues, after which I had done a lot of work to eliminate duplicate entries from my calendar and address book.
At the time I had something like 100 entries for "No Name" - the Address Book card was titled "No Name" and there were no fields filled in, so literally No Name as opposed to a card for a person named "No Name". I also had dozens of entries for certain people's birthdays which were accumulated dross from the days of syncing with the Palm V via USB and the T68i via Bluetooth.
So now I have a dozen calendars with the same name, containing the same content. Some of my calendars have the same entries repeated multiple times (and then repeated multiple more times in their duplicate calendars).
How I long for the days with my Palm V where we had a nifty "Undupe" application which would scan through the calendar, address book and to-do list, removing all the duplicated entries automatically.
But this time I'll remember to do a manual backup and make sure I archive the calendar, sans duplicates. And I'll keep wishing for Apple to discover 'git'.
