+10 for remembering that Gwen's dad was a blacksmith.
+10 for remembering that Gwen's dad died.
+10 for remembering that Morgana's good at swords.
+10 for Uther's reaction to Arthur's story about losing a bet to Morgana.
-10 for the whole Sekrit Hero/Sekrit Villain both sneaking around being Sekrit thing with Merlin and Morgana; I've always found that trope frustrating and irritating, and this iteration of it is certainly not changing my mind.
-10 for Gwen neither going to Morgana before Arthur nor giving any reason for not going to Morgana.
-10 for cutting away instead of showing Merlin giving Gwen a hug. :( I mean, I can pretend it happened off-screen, but Gwen/Merlin is like the only one of my ships that isn't in danger of being sunk by canon this year so I can't help being saddened by missed opportunities. (Yeah, yeah, obviously there is nothing to support Gwen/Merlin in a romantic sense, but their friendship is doing better than Gwen & Morgana's or Merlin & Arthur's.)
-Dear show, Morgana called and she would like her personality back. I've been saying all along that the real Morgana is still chained up in a cave or communing with druids or something, and I would really like her back please, because hot as Katie looks I am just not a fan of Evil Twin Morgana at all.
+10 for Cenred being awesome. I mean, yeah, he's evil and all, but that little bow to Morgause was hilarious, and he was never supposed to be a good guy or care about Our Heroes, he's just fun. I would kind of like to see an AU of him and Gwaine teaming up to go on the pull, I feel like that would be enormously entertaining.
-Damn did Morgause ever look lovely in that forest scene with the cloak and her hair pulled back. I've never thought she was unattractive or anything, but was still surprised at how stunning I found her there.
-I'm not exactly surprised that Brother Plot Device didn't have anything interesting to contribute, but still disappointed by it.
-Arthur didn't do anything enormously objectionable this week (I am beyond sick of him throwing things at Merlin, but sort of resigned to that at this point) but I found him just kind of irritating a lot of the time, which is really unusual for me. I've certainly been unhappy with his actions before, but this sort of annoyance is new - not How Dare You or WTF, rather eye-rolling Oh Shut Up. Hopefully it won't last.
-That said, oh, his face when he looked back at Merlin after asking Gwen to keep an eye on him in battle. Suspect that was more Bradley than Arthur, but I'll take it.
-Merlin ... was also kind of annoying, but I think that was mainly the result of my previously mentioned lack of patience with the dynamic he and Morgana have now.
-Gwen got to have lines about something other than Arthur, so that was cool.
-I wish I shipped Arthur and Gwen. I used to - not a lot, but a bit - but nowadays I find I'm spending almost all of their scenes together either cringing at the Epic Middle School Romance or thinking wistfully of the days when we got nice scenes between Gwen & Morgana and Merlin & Arthur. Which is, uh, unfortunate.
