tornados and new manga

Last night.

We... had... a...

TORNADO WARNING!! EEEEEEEEK!!!

It was actually at 1 this morning, when good children are asleep but I was still up reading a Very Dramatic volume of Swan (v3, that is-not that Swan is ever anything but dramatic). There was lots of lightning, and I could hear just the faintest rumblings of distant thunder, and then it got closer, and I turned off my computer and unplugged it just in case, and then Masumi was like, "NOOOOO!" (p178 of the CMX edition, for those of you following along) and I heard sirens! Ahhhh!!!

Mum and Dad were up soon after that started, and Derek might've already been up (like I was), and we all headed downstairs (I grabbed Swan and my cat Marron, who was sprawled on my floor) and turned on the news. And those weather guys were getting all dramatic and cautionary, and the warning was for another half hour, and it was scary but I prayed and tried to distract myself with dramatic Swan-happenings (dramatic manga probably wasn't the best idea when my nerves were already on edge, but oh well) and then my other two brothers came over along with some friends they'd been visiting (friends live on the third floor of an apartment building, so they headed out in the crazy-pouring rain to be somewhere safer). And eventually, of course, the storm blew past without much incident, and we sat around joking about the Dramatic Weather Guys and how excited they must be to have this chance to show off all their fancy weather programs and stuff. And it was fun and not so scary after all.

But still, you know, it could've been something scary!!

So anyway, it's been warm lately and that's made me not want to wear lots of layers, so my outfits have been pretty simple. I hope that's okay with y'all!

Soon after I learned about Japanese kimono-wear and how wearing it with one's right side on top of one's left (or the opposite if you're looking at someone else) meant you were dead, I noticed that the default layering-order for women's tops is right-over-left (see the top of Tuesday's dress if you're confused about what I mean). I wonder why that is... it's probably based on the way women's shirts button (by the way, lys, that's a good way to remember how they button, since you always have a hard time figuring it out when you're drawing button-up shirts). I had this notion that I'd redo all my shirts/dresses like that so that they'd be in proper kimono-style and I wouldn't look dead. But that never happened, of course.

The usual complex layerings will return whenever the weather cools off, or gets so hot that we turn on the AC.

Also-also-also! I got a box from CDJapan today! With Hidaka-manga! Eeeeee♥ I'm not allowing myself to browse the SekaIchi volumes yet, but I got Berry Berry 2, and Hidaka-sensei's first Artbook, and it is gorgeous!! Wow~ I feel bad for holding off on buying it so long-I don't think I could have except that way back when I came across an online artbook gallery that had a bunch of scans from it, so I was like "La di da, I've already seen the artwork!" But that's no way to be!! What kind of fan am I, huh? So now I have my own real copy, and after I'm done looking at it, it will join my lovely-lovely Kaze Hikaru and VBR artbooks (I officially have an artbook collection now! woo!) on my bookshelf. It's such a big book, though! I wasn't expecting that! I mean, the Kaze Hikaru artbook is almost as big, but still. Pretty...

Also in the box were Tadaima no Uta 1, and Gakuen Babysitters 1 *squeeeeeeeeeal♥♥♥♥♥*

50 more drawings to ink for the book. (that means 73 done. That's good, right? It's progress, right?)

work, swan, scariness, heroes a2z, weather, cdjapan, daily fashion, hidaka banri, manga, clothes
