So I managed to cajole my way into DJing a goth-themed dance in Second Life next Friday. This is the weekend I will devote to building the playlist for it. I have about two hours to cover and I have a rep for keeping to theme to maintain. The kicker? I really don't know the genre that well, or if I know the bands, I don't always know they're goth. "Born to be alive" - Dumbest lyric hook ever?

I've taken on a regular shift at O'Toole's Pub on Happy Clam Island in Second Life. I'll be DJing from 7-9 PM PT/SLT on Mondays. My playlist as it stands now runs as follows:

I can go from a jazz arrangement of "Misty" to techno to John Denver's "Forest Lawn" just by letting it do the picking. Oh, and then it fed me the track in the Music field, found on the blog page I mentioned the other day. He figured out how to play the song backwards so it'd sound close to correct when that recording was played backwards.

WFMU's resident blogger had to set a limit as to how many cover versions of "Stairway to Heaven" he listed to make sure he still had a life. He stopped at 101.

I'm not going to detail where in this song exist the points where I either don't want to admit it's true or it just doesn't quite fit. They're there; as I re-read the lyrics, I feel them rise up like rough spots on wood.
