Never been so happy to see the end of a piece of wood.
Day 6
Yeah, sounds bad, doesn't it. But frankly, this project has gone on longer than any woodworking project ever should. I got this very large, very heavy, and very abused dresser from some friends. They just wanted to get it out of their basement, and I have been on the lookout for something to contain all my non-t-shirt clothes. What I have is very old, and from when people didn't spend so much damn money on t-shirts clothes, so it doesn't hold a whole lot.
When I got it, it was crackled blonde stain, with bits of water damage and a little spray paint hear and there. And now it is a thing of Bombay Mahogany beauty. It doesn't look brand new, and that's how I like it. Used, but not used up. I need to let the stain/poly set up for another day, and find just the right hardware for it, but the hard part is over.
I am able to step back, admire all the hours of hard work, and remember the friends who gave it to me. It's mine, and I love it. And it makes me happy just to look at it.
