Happy Thing Meme - Day 5
This one goes without saying...but I'm gonna do it anyway.
Day 5
My happy thing today is my Dad. For every fishing trip, every ball game, every concert, every play, and every event he had to be dragged to in more than thirty years, he's done his best to make us aware of how very proud he is of each of us. But more than that, it was holding me until I finally went to sleep sometime after Carson said good night when I couldn't sleep as a baby. It was laughing with me when the band cracked jokes after I got older and couldn't sleep. It was letting me watch him clean the guns after a hunting trip so I would know how it all worked when I was too young to go. It was teaching me how to use them when I got big enough. It was proudly telling anyone who'd listen that I got a perfect score on my Hunter Safety License. It was sitting up all night with me when I had pneumonia in the hospital. It's telling all those embarrassing stories about me at some of the worst possible times, just to remind me where I came from. It's getting excited to see a WWII documentary at a film festival because there was some unseen footage we hadn't watched as part of our Rainy Day PBS Sunday afternoons when I was a kid. It's making time to go see each Star Wars movie with me from 1977 until the final movie made its way onto the big screen in 2005.
In all the big ways, he has been a hero to me, but in all the little things he's done and continues to do every day, he's my Dad. And for all the trouble and all the joy we cause each other, he still makes me very happy.
