My mother gave Franco london1967 an Amaryllis bulb for Christmas, it's not quite as dark as the picture on the box indicated but it is a wonderful colour..... the first flower-head has died but I think there is a little sign at the base of the leaves that another bud may be coming.......

As it's so gloomy here I thought I'd remind myself of some sunny days.......... we've always visited Venice out-of-season, well winter really, in the past, so it was lovely to see splashes of colour around in some of the off-the-beaten-track streets for a change.

Last Thursday was a very busy day at the Garden Museum, it was the Chelsea Flower Show across the river in the grounds of the Royal Hospital Chelsea all week, so we had lots of "out-of-town" visitors coming to see us. Just over a week ago the lovely Ricardo (bazanges) was staying with us for a few days for the second half of the Easter holidays, and on the Tuesday we went to visit the RHS Greater London Plant Fair held at the Horticultural Halls not far from Victoria.  We arrived barely half an hour after opening time, but still saw a couple of Miss Marple-style ladies ( Read more... )

My weekend in Leeds for the Mother's Day weekend went very well, though london1967 was sorely missed !! Our weekend started early as it was Franco's (london1967) Birthday on Friday, commencing with me meeting him on Piccadilly for Afternoon Tea at The Wolseley.  Having used his camera to take a couple of photographs outside, the camera decided, once we were shown to our table, to somersault out of his pocket and disappear ! Late yesterday afternoon someone delivered/left a box in our porch..... it contained a gorgeous bunch of red tulips and purple irises in bud, and it's apparently from a secret admirer......... I'm sure who it's certainly from ! (begins with an F and finishes with an O !!) in spite of the protestations !!

My goodness it's chilly today ! It's bright and sunny but quite windy, and that's coming from the east where mainland Europe is freezing with sub-zero temperatures....even snow in Istanbul, and on the beaches in Greece.... seeing all the reports has made me even more cilled ! LOL and it seems it's not moving on for a while yet........ Brrrr.......
