Friday recs post: love is endless
I’m not doing brilliantly right now; I’m not very happy in Vietnam, and the job isn’t going wonderfully. I am going to have to pay careful attention to not spiralling, I think. Depression snuck up on me a couple of years ago, and it wasn’t so much misery that hit as total apathy. I’ve noticed in the last couple of weeks that I’m getting much less done than usual.
So yes. I’m sorry to be so behind on things right now, guys. At least these are still happening.

D For Death Eater by
tuawahine. Order-type/Death Eater, ~3300 words, NC-17; very dubious consent, humiliation, bondage, toys, object penetration. Summary: A survivor of the winning side of the war takes revenge on a former Death Eater.
One of my favourite smut fics EVER, for all that neither party is ever named and they never touch. (We know the Death Eater is blond and grey-eyed but that’s it.) It’s just. Ridiculously hot. Starving on the street post-war, the former Death Eater is invited inside, but only if they put on a magical collar that enforces their obedience for twenty-four hours. He obeys and becomes a spectacle and a toy for the night. You may be sceptical due to lack of pairing, but SERIOUSLY READ IT.

Yeah yeah, I know, I’m still poking around hd_holidays and reccing. But hey, we all get behind and then mean to go back and never do, right? And if you didn’t read this you totally should. It’s very frothy, rom-com-y fun, full of sharp dialogue: Narcissa tells Draco off about his mouth and there’s an evil neighbour and Harry is a delight.

Into Darkness by sigune. Snape & Dumbledore gen, G.
Generally I just don’t care much about Severus Snape, but this is a beautiful, elegant piece about two Headmasters. So much is expressed in one image: Dumbledore asleep in his portrait, in the spotlight and the warm colours, unable or unwilling to help as Severus heads into the darkness, regret and pain and control in every line of his face and body, with only the tip of his cigarette to light the way.

A Good Look on You by kinky-kneazle. Steve/Natasha (background Tony/Pepper/Coulson), ~1300 words, NC-17. Summary: It wasn't that Steve wasn't great in the sack, it just wasn't enough. Natasha wanted him to lose control.
This is a tiny, charming little bit of Steve/Natasha. I love her spy-girl approach to making Steve lose control and the hot smut, and the ending with her and Coulson swapping threats :)
The Twice-Told Tale by arysteia. Steve/Tony, ~15 800 words, NC-17. Summary: For someone he'd hero-worshipped for so long, Steve Rogers in the flesh is a pretty big disappointment. For one thing, he keeps looking at Tony as though he reminds him of someone else, and even if he never says anything, Tony's pretty sure it's his father. A lifetime of not measuring up to Howard's expectations is more than enough, thank you very much, and he's certainly not going to make an effort to live up to any of Steve's. Steve's pretty clearly failed to live up to his expectations, in any case, and that's not hypocritical at all.
A very well-known Steve/Tony fic, and for good reason. I love these kinds of circular time-travel stories, and it’s well-characterised and generally a lot of fun for a fic that could easily have fallen off the cliff into a swamp of angst.

These pieces are gorgeous: stylish, full of movement and personality with beautiful backgrounds and Natasha is so well done. She’s tough and beautiful and in that first one, especially, her face is alight with humour.
Cinderella!Loki by nautilusl2. Thor/Loki, G.
This is incredibly beautiful and appropriately Disney in style; I love their differing but complementary outfits. And oh, Thor’s closed eyes as he fervently kisses Loki’s hands, and Loki’s pain as his hands begin to turn blue. The quality is incredible and it tells a whole story in one image.

Rude Boy Resort by Cherry Ice. Tony gen.
The Rude Boy/Last Resort remix is possibly the most perfect Tony song ever, and this is a brilliant vid. I love that the first “come on rude boy boy is you big enough” is set not to a sex scene or anything close, but Tony holding up his arms as his missiles explode. Perfect. It’s a really interesting exploration of Tony’s character, his mentors and influences, the sex and excess and how it’s intertwined with both his Merchant of Death period and his heroism.

I have watched this like a million times, because it is perfectly edited and bouyant and full of Ponds and it brings me pure joy. It can bring you pure joy too.

Maybe Redemption Has Stories To Tell by elphiyero10. Characters from Buffy, Angel, Cabin in the Woods, Dollhouse, Firefly, Avengers and Dr Horrible.
A beautiful tribute to the Whedonverse that makes me cry every time. Okay, some of these characters I’m like YOU’RE NOT HEROIC WHY ARE YOU HERE. SHUT UP CABIN IN THE WOODS. But basically, this is so much love. It’s set to incredibly well-chosen music and gorgeous clips, and I love the lines from certain programmes overlaying each other’s moments: Thor’s “come home” as Willow crumples in Xander’s arms in Grave, Loki’s “you call on such lost creatures to defend you?” as Buffy cries to Tara and Wesley sleeps with Lilah, Spike’s “let’s go be heroes” as Mal’s crew gears up. I just. “I’m thinkin’ somebody needs to put you down dog” / “I’m thinkin’ we’ll rise again” as Buffy rises to fight the First gives me actual chills.
