Crochet projects: Ecru Green Hat & Aqua Pink mobius wrap

Aug 06, 2012 11:17

Two more crochet projects to share and then I'll have posted all that I've completed at this point. First, an Ecru Green sun hat and then an Aqua Pink mobius wrap. Pics behind the LJ cut.

Ecru Green sun hat

This sun hat should look familiar. I used the same pattern before. So why did I do it over? One, the first hat I made was a tad too tight. Like wearing a too tight headband, it was uncomfortable to wear for long periods. Two, I thought the hat's style might be ideal for some color blocks. I was right. I made this hat in early June. Seriously. That's how long it's been lying around unphotographed. I wore the hat to the Parade of Sail if you remember me posting about that. You would think that having done the pattern once before, the second time around would be easier. I certainly thought that's how it should have been. But that did not happen. I had to start it over. Twice. *sigh* You know, if I could get it right on the first try, this hat wouldn't take me 7.5 hours over 5 days to complete.

Aqua Pink mobius wrap

Remember the Beach mobius scarf I posted earlier? The one I said was a proof of concept / prototype? This is what the design looks like when it's all grown up. The end result is a little big, both in width and in length. The width is easily fixed by reducing the number of starting stitches. If I change the color pattern, I can shorten the length by doing fewer rounds. I didn't want to lose the color pattern though. Maybe next time, I'll do it with a different color pattern or none at all. Then I can do fewer rounds. What's neat about this design is that I don't have to use the mesh effect. I can make this mobius wrap with any yarn thickness and any pattern that I can work in the round for all sorts of results. Imagine a fancy fine yarn and a lacy pattern for a summer night's elegant wrap or a thick chunky yarn in a dense weave for a winter wrap. It would work either way, I'm sure. This particular wrap took me just under 7 hours over 4 days to complete. It's not hard to work up.

Finally, I'm up to date with sharing completed crochet projects. Stay tuned for a future project already in progress.
