One of the most interesting developments since we've moved into our house is J's burgeoning desire for lawn maintenance. If anyone would have asked me a month ago if J liked doing yard work, I probably would have said no. As of Saturday, J and I have been happily ensconced in our new home for a week. The first night in with all of our furniture was glorious, and even the cat has shut up about having to move. We're still getting used to the new noises and creaks, and all of our neighbors with their back outside lights on all night, but its all lovely because its ours ( Read more... )

With about 15 days before we close on our house I can't help but start planning out my design ideas. I realize that some things will take time, and funds we lack, but I'm hoping we can settle into our living spaces soon after move in. We've got mice. Again. After months of placid mouse free living it seems they're back and they're breeding. Admittedly, I haven't put down traps, but have strategically placed moth balls and peppermint oil around the house (so much so the house reeked of moth balls for a few unfortunate days) as I read that this was a natural repellent for mice. Returned home from work and was in the kitchen with J while fixing dinner, walk out into the dining room and the cat is proudly stalking toward me with a tail hanging from his mouth. So...more bad news today. Car's broke on the inside, auto body place won't fix or even acknowledge any culpability. Essentially there's a broken gasket that's causing oil to leak on my timing belt which now has to be replaced as well as issues around (but not) my transmission. I'd love to be able to install something like this SNES bartop cabinet whenever we buy a house, but J does most of the cooking and that might get to be too much of a distraction. With something like that around I might actually have to cook.
